Still nothing.

My new landscapes are "1m2.dds", "2m2.dds", and so on and so forth until "4m2.dds".

Tried replacing the filenames in the script file with these new landscapes, but nothing happened.

Hey doc', I would love to have a weapon replacement for the original marathon weapons to make them like the ones from 2 and 3.
Also viceversa.
I tried myself but this game's engine is more confusing than nearly everything in the Shivering Isles.

This could be caused by several reasons.
1. You don't have the OpenGL (Shader) renderer or the Bloom option enbaled in your AlephOne preferences.
2. The paths to the files are incorrect
3. The mml file has not been correctly placed or the file name/extension is wrong.
4. The HD-Scenery plugin is installed but not enabled.

Also make sure you have upgraded to the latest AlephOne build before proceeding.

The shapes files of M1 & M2 are very different regarding the size and number of players weapon sprites - in order to swap the loadout between M1 & M2 you'd need to heavily modify their shapes and sounds files which would take some time to say the least.

You can try and just replace the graphics but that'll look/feel and sound awful.

.

1. I'll check.

2. Set them fairly well. I'll retry.

3. It seemed to be in order.

4. It works perfectly when bloom is disabled. I know this because of how breathtaking the first new skybox is.

EDIT:

1. Both were enabled.

2. They seem fine to me.

3. Same. Seems fine to me.

4. I guess it is enabled. When Bloom is off, the new skyboxes are in place.

Mind if I send my Aleph One to you? Perhaps you can notice something I didn't.

I played Marathon, and it wasn't really that enjoyable. The controls were stiff (I did change them to my liking), the level design was terrible, and the plot was hard to follow given the lack of backstory given to you.

if you're not into reading all the long terminal texts you will have a hard time understanding Marathons storyline, which is quite dense and complex to say the least - I'd even say it's the most thought-through story any FPS has ever come up with since the founding of the genre. There are whole websites dedicated to analyzing Marathons plot/storyline.

Marathon is like a good Sci-fi novel disguised as an interactive videogame - no developer today would take the time and effort to recreate something like this simply because peoples attention spans are getting shorter and nobody would be interested in coping with this kind of stuff anymore - in fact hardly anyone ever really did except for a few hardcore Mac fans.

I have to agree that the level design is quite weird in places but considering how old the game engine is and which setting it tried to recreate it's pretty impressive nonetheless.

Anyway, I still love Bungie for creating the Marathon series - it simply is a piece of art and I hope that one day it ends up in some kind of a computer game history museum (maybe next to the Half-Life series lol). Nuff said!

Agreed, Marathon's plot is astounding. I'd say the Half-Life plot is better, but Marathon definitely has some of the greatest writing I've seen.

TNC - I have looked at your Marathon setup and I have discovered the following issues:

1. The paths to the hi-res graphics were not correct - I have attached the correct script below
2. The additional bloom plugin that you installed overrides the graphics settings of the script files that are placed in the Scripts folder - I removed/deactivated the plugin and now everything seems to work just fine.

Code:
<marathon>
<opengl>

<texture coll="27"
bitmap="0"
normal_image="Landscapes/1m2.dds"
type="1"
normal_bloom_shift="0.4"
opac_type="0"
/>

<texture coll="28"
bitmap="0"
normal_image="Landscapes/3m2.dds"
type="1"
normal_bloom_shift="0.4"
opac_type="0"
/>

<texture coll="29"
bitmap="0"
normal_image="Landscapes/2m2.dds"
type="1"
normal_bloom_shift="0.4"
opac_type="0"
/>

<texture coll="30"
bitmap="0"
normal_image="Landscapes/4m2.dds"
type="1"
normal_bloom_shift="0.4"
opac_type="0"
/>

</opengl>
</marathon>

Thanks, but removing the plugin removes the Bloom effects.

Hmm.

Bothering with this is pointless anyway - I'm currently uploading my preconfigured setup - hopefully it will work properly for you.

I have created a prefs folder with your name in the /Prefs subdirectory - anyone else who doesn't want to configure the game manually should launch the game once - then replace his/her prefs folder that was created with one of the other two that were already there.

Alright, I'll wait.

What about Infinity? How should I place the filenames in the script file?

I have:

1mi.dds

2mi.dds

3mi.dds

4mi.dds

You're using an outdated hi-res landscape replacement - for best quality and compatibility I recommend you to download and install this new plugin based HD-landscape mod for Infinity:

http://www.simplici7y.com/items/gorans-highres-landscape-plugin

It looks far better than the old version. Very good!

ok so here are the files:

Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RQNR4M41

place the Marathon 2 folder in your C-Drive - if you change that location you have to adjust the file paths in the Marathon 2 Preferences file which can be found inside /Prefs/yourusername/ or you configure the game settings accordingly at the M2 preferences screen.

Amazing. Thanks, doc! Hats Off to you. Wink

Only problem is certain sprites have problems.

The Pfhor are small and appear to float, and the .45 is really thin.

The HUD appeared to be the old one as well.

Thanks, but it's not just my efforts that made this possible - Without the help of one of the AlephOne devs I would never have been able to acquire all the neccessary files to even start working on this. So hats off to him as well. Salute

That happens when the paths to the XBLA shapes and scripts files are not correct:
Look in the Marathon 2 Preferences file and make sure that the paths in the environment settings are correct.

Code:

<environment
  map_file="C:\Marathon 2\M2_Load.sceA"
  physics_file="C:\Marathon 2\Prefs\jaba\Standard.phyA"
  shapes_file="C:\Marathon 2\XBLA Shapes"
  sounds_file="C:\Marathon 2\Sounds.sndA"
  theme_dir="C:\Marathon 2\Themes\Default"
  map_checksum="762432692"
  physics_checksum="0"
  shapes_mod_date="1286722512"
  sounds_mod_date="1225839083"
  group_by_directory="true"
  reduce_singletons="false"
  smooth_text="true"
  solo_lua_file=""
  use_solo_lua="false"
  hud_lua_file="C:\Marathon 2\Scripts\FloatingX.lua"
  use_hud_lua="true"
  hide_alephone_extensions="true"
>
</environment>

or re-select the XBLA-Shapes file and the FloatingX.lua script from the M2 ingame preferences screen.
