Son, I am disappoint(ed in myself)

So, there I was. Two months ago. I hear of the ArtPass Contest, a TF2 mapping contest with the winning entry being released officially into Team Fortress 2.

I was excited, and yet I knew that I wouldn't be able to finish it, having absolutely zero mapping talent. Still, I gave it a shot.

Since I obviously failed for the last 2 months to make virtually any progress, I wanted to break the rules a tad and work (irl) with a friend of mine who had much more experience in Hammer; in order to have at least SOMETHING presentable for the entry. What happened?

He was sick. Yes. After a week of "yeah, I'll help you" I call him, not even 10 minutes ago, and he's "not feeling well," out of nowhere. So, completely defeated, having almost nothing to show for the last 2 months of effort (map wise, I did learn a shitload of things about hammer in general), with a week before BOTH my birthday and the mapping contest deadline, I turn to you.

I have provided several screenshots showing off my work, and however flawed and pathetic it may be; I'm proud of it. I am ashamed that I have to ask this, but:

Is this map savable? I would hope so. Please help me. I would never ask this normally, but I have no other options. All I want to do is be able to SHOW SOMETHING presentable, to be able to release something. I have nothing to give in return (well, I could always find porn on the internet for you), but it would me a lot to me. Can I has gud birthday?

Notes:
I was going for a mainly industrial theme, with the RED base being inside of Ayers Rock (located in Australia), with the BLU base (and the closest two buildings [which also belong to them]) also being industrial. On the second floor of the 3rd building (Blu colored walls, close to Blu spawn area), there was to be an office area with 2 open windows. Below that, the 1st point, a shipping area for the RED team could('ve) be(en) seen, with an adjoining storage building (labeled with several DO NOT ENTER-signs). Going towards the 2nd point, the player would see a land bridge, similar to this:

that the player could cross. On the building to the left (if facing the land bridge, located on the rock wall) would be a small tower connected to the landbridge via a metal bridge. From there, looking at the second control point, you could see the control point itself, inside of a small loading area (for trucks and whatnot), and a smaller building that connects to the loading area (forming a building that is slightly horseshoe in shape). Then, you could see the main entrance into the RED base, which itself was filled with computer terminals, RED insignia, and a few explosive devices (think rockets) scattered about. In a very cp_well styled room, the final room would have a large rocket over the final control point, ready to fire.

^that was my vision that I tried to make real.

Cannot help, but I would if I can.

no matter how far you've come, you can still make an entry thread and see what happens, but artpass_valvebase is VERY hard to complete.

TF2 mapping in general is not easy because of the limited amount of models and materials

enter a contest you have a chance in
instead of entering a mapping contest where you yourself stated "you can't map"

find your talent, and enter a contest that has to do with that

its great to try new things, but its even better to not put a deadline on them

All of this is very true. But I don't really regret trying it. I've learned a whole lot about mapping in general, and I feel better for it. It's a simple thing, a feeling that I hope you haven't forgotten with all of your experience.

Regarding your first post, I KNOW that no one expects anything out of me, because I've shown nothing of my talents. Mapping apparently isn't my niche, but I thought that I would try for once in my life to complete something mapping-related, just to be able to say that I CAN, albeit poorly.


Mapping is not a second nature to me, and I never claimed that it was.

Sven, if you can't find anyone to help you, then keep trying! Hammer's hard but you can learn it, eventually!

Maybe you won't make the Art Pass, but it IS a tough competition!
